WHERE IT ALL STARTED

1975 Local likely lad Bill Jones opened a weekly folk club at the Parkgate Hotel and invited Eddie Morris, who had been running a club in Liverpool, to be the resident singer.  The club was called Wednesday Folk  and established a reputation for booking good acts and having a great friendly atmosphere.  Bill left after a few years, and Eddie took the reins and continued the good work started by Bill.

1983 Due to adverse circumstances (new Management), the club moved to another venue. Over the next 7 years the club was run at 3 different locations until Eddie decided to take a break  and the club closed.

1992 Eddie became involved in the running of the Black Horse Folk Club at West Kirby, the home of the Tom Topping Band, although Tom at this time was no longer involved. A big decision was made at the end of 1993 to move to a better venue and also, due to personal commitments of both Brian Jones and Colin Henderson (Tom Topping Band), to run once a month.

1994 In January we opened as the Parkgate Folk Club at the Parkgate Hotel, on the last Thursday each month, with Eddie, Brian and Colin as the resident band. The club quickly became re-established as a prime folk venue, booking top international and national artistes.

1997 Due to pressures of work, family commitments etc., Colin and Brian left at the end of 1997.

1999 Brass Tacks, a local folk group, became a resident band at the club.

2000 The Parkgate Hotel closed in March and the club moved down the road to our present venue The Boathouse.
